After making over 140 appearances for Republic of Ireland and scoring 60+ goals for his national side, Robbie Keane opted to hang up his boots and not play any further matches at the international stage.

Robbie Keane and David Beckham have a close relationship as both of them played alongside each other some time ago in the MLS in LA Galaxy.

David Beckham paid tribute to his former LA Galaxy teammate as the Englishman wrote on his instagram account: 145 caps, 67 goals.. Passion and love for the game especially when playing for his country.. Doesn't matter where he plays he scores goals.. Sad to see Keano retiring from Ireland but this last game wed should be a huge celebration.. Congrats mate @robbiekeane@lagalaxy

May 18 of 2013 was a historical day for David Beckham as this was his last professional match as a football player, the Englishman would later retire and he has been focusing on his other ventures such as his Miami franchise team and just hanging around with his family.

However, there is a chance that Beckham could pick up his playing boots once again and perform at a competitive level as he has recently shown interest in performing in the Indian Premier Futsal League.

The Premier Futsal League went through it’s first season which ended in July but there have already been announcements made which confirm that a 2nd season will be kicking off in the first quarter of 2017.

The first season had well known football talents such as: Ronaldinho, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Michel Salgado, HernanCrespo and Cafu. It has recently been revealed that both David Beckham and Ricardo Kaka are interested in participating in the upcoming season.

Dinesh Raj is the co-founder and managing director of the Premier Futsal and he has confirmed that Kaka along with Beckham have shown interest in entering the competition which might happen.

"Beckham and Kaka are interested to play. It is not because of the money that they are coming for. It's about our vision which they are interested in. We can't just bring them with money," Dinesh Raj said.
