Marcus Rashford reacts after Manchester United win the Manchester derby
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has said that the Red Devils could have scored more goals during the 2-1 derby triumph over Manchester City in the Premier League. The Red Devils were deemed as the underdogs ahead of the Manchester derby but they managed to silence the doubters with a thoroughly deserved win.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial scored the goals for the Red Devils in the opening half and following the break, the team put up a resolute defensive display with the Citizens only managing an equalising goal at the Etihad Stadium. Speaking after the game, Rashford acknowledged that the Red Devils were the better side despite the limited possession and said the team could have won by a greater margin with the chances they had in the opening half.
"We could have had more goals and really seen the game out. It is a tough win and sometimes they do more for you as a team and will help us going forward. That first 30 minutes was terrific and what we played to do, the challenge is if we can do that for 80 or 90 minutes,” he was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Rashford has been the standout performer in the attack for the Red Devils and he managed to convert another penalty after convincingly beating goalkeeper Ederson. Other than that, he had a couple of more enticing shots on goal and one of those unfortunately hit the woodwork to spare the Citizens’ blushes.
With the victory, the Mancunian giants have moved within five points of fourth-placed Chelsea and they are in a good stead, considering they have beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City on the bounce – something many did not expect. Their next Premier League game comes against Everton away from home. The Toffees may be without a permanent head coach but they recently picked up a surprise 3-1 triumph over Chelsea.
