Evra reveals two United players who can play for top European clubs
Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has said that there are only two players in the current Red Devils squad, who can ply their trade for elite clubs in Europe. The Red Devils have come for criticism following an average season in the Premier League where they finished in the sixth spot with just 66 points on the board.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Evra said that he respects the players in the current United team but they are only two players in Paul Pogba and David de Gea, who can feature for the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, he said: "I will be honest with you, I love all of them. I see them a lot - when I go to the games, I visit them in the dressing room and encourage them - they know how much I love them. But name me one or two players who can play for Real Madrid, Juventus or Bayern Munich? It's a few. I would say Paul Pogba and David de Gea. I have a lot of respect for the rest of them."
United were expected to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League crown after a second-place finish during the 2017/18 season . However, the club never looked like doing so after showing little activity during the 2018 summer transfer window and that coupled with a poor pre-season meant that they dropped out of title contention from the very beginning.
Owing to this, the club had to take the decision to sack Jose Mourinho from the helm and his successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has not been able to change the fortunes despite the bright start. United have been fancied to go on a mega-spending spree during the summer and anything less than that could see them facing another battle to make the top four.
