Manchester United boss praises Paul Pogba’s gamechanging performance against Chelsea
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was impressed with the dominance exhibited by Paul Pogba in the midfield versus Chelsea. The France international had a forgettable Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain where he was sent off towards the end but he managed to make amends with a strong showing against Maurizio Sarri’s men.
The Frenchman did not have the best of starts against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round but he picked up momentum as the first half progressed and provided a goal and an assist before the interval. Thereafter, the midfielder was more cautious with the approach amidst the Blues aggression, but the Red Devils eventually secured a comfortable 2-0 win.
“Speaking after the game, Ole was pleased with the comeback from Pogba after experiencing“
a rare low against Les Parisiens in midweek, he said: “He had a tough game against PSG but he was probably our best player then. He had two or three players around him all the time.Tonight (Monday) was a great response, playing against one of the best defensive midfielders in the world with (N’Golo) Kante next to him. We know he’s one of the best attacking “midfielders in the world“. He has vision, so the cross for Ander’s goal was fantastic.”
With the victory, Ole managed to help United avoid a fifth successive FA Cup defeat to Chelsea while continuing the recent dominance over the clubs in the top six. Since the turn of the year, United have faced Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal on the road in different competitions and on each occasion, they have ran victorious which has further enhanced Ole’s credentials. Manchester United return to league action this weekend where they are scheduled to host Liverpool. They can hamper the title prospects of their arch-rivals with maximum points on the day.
