Depay Does Not Want Comparisons with Beckham after Wonder Goal
Memphis Depay brought an end to his Manchester United horror story during the January transfer window, as his early a £13 million move to the French club, Lyon.
The departure of Depay was very much on the cards, as he failed to settle in the Premier league from the word go. He was signed by former boss Louis Van Gaal as a result of being one of the most talented players in French football.Depay, however, soon realised that working wonders in the Dutch league is unlikely to get a player anywhere when it comes to the Premier League.
The move to the French outfit has been a major boost for the player, who has been playing regularly. A regular football appears to be doing a lot of favours for the player. He recently scored an audacious goal in the 4-0 win over Toulouse. Christopher Jallet opened the scoring for Cornet gave a slender advantage in the 47th minute.
However, it was the goals from Depay that made the game safe for Lyon while also letting them focus on other pressing matters. One of those goals were scored by Depay almost came from the centre of the pitch. An incredible 45 yard hit by the Dutchman was the icing on the cake for Lyon. Since his move, Depay has scored five goals and created twoin nine appearances.
“I'm not David Beckham. I don't compare myself to such a legend.I think it's great for me to score a goal like this. I tried the same thing a few years ago when I played for PSV and I hit the bar. This time, I got lucky. I realised in the first half that the keeper was off his line all the time. We put on pressure, I looked at him, and as soon as we won the ball I knew where he was, so all I had to do was turn and just do it - don't think, just shoot,” said Depay.
